Discover Clive's Roadhouse Champlin

Walking into Clive's Roadhouse Champlin for the first time, I noticed how quickly the room filled with a comfortable buzz-families settling into booths, regulars greeting staff by name, and the steady rhythm of plates moving from kitchen to table. Located at 11680 Theatre Dr N, Champlin, MN 55316, United States, this diner-style roadhouse balances a relaxed neighborhood feel with the polish of a well-run restaurant that knows its audience.

I’ve eaten here enough times to see patterns that matter. The menu leans into classic American comfort food with confidence, and that consistency shows up in reviews from locals who keep coming back. Burgers arrive hot and juicy, with patties cooked to temperature rather than rushed. Steaks are rested properly, which is something the American Meat Science Association emphasizes as essential for flavor retention and tenderness. That attention to process explains why the ribeye doesn’t bleed all over the plate and instead cuts cleanly with each bite.

One thing that stands out is how the kitchen handles volume. During peak dinner hours, ticket times stay reasonable, usually under 20 minutes based on my own visits and conversations with nearby tables. According to National Restaurant Association data, speed of service is one of the top three factors influencing diner satisfaction, and Clive’s seems to understand that balance between efficiency and quality. You don’t feel rushed, but you’re also not watching the clock.

The bar side brings another layer to the experience. Draft lines are clean, and the beer list rotates enough to keep things interesting without overwhelming casual drinkers. Bartenders measure pours accurately, something many patrons comment on in online reviews. That kind of consistency builds trust, especially for diners who expect transparency in pricing and portion sizes.

I once sat near the kitchen pass and watched how plates were checked before heading out. Garnishes were adjusted, fries replaced if they’d sat too long, and sauces wiped from rims. These small quality-control steps align with ServSafe guidelines, which many reputable restaurants follow to maintain both safety and presentation standards. It’s not flashy, but it’s professional.

What makes the place feel grounded is the staff’s familiarity with the menu. Servers don’t just recite specials; they explain differences between cuts of meat or suggest sides based on how rich an entrée is. That kind of guidance usually comes from hands-on training, not a script. When I asked about gluten-sensitive options for a friend, the server walked me through preparation methods and potential cross-contact risks, openly acknowledging limitations rather than overpromising.

The dining room itself stays comfortable even when full. Noise levels are manageable, tables are spaced well, and the lighting is warm without being dim. These design choices reflect research from Cornell’s Food and Brand Lab, which notes that moderate lighting and sound levels encourage longer, more enjoyable meals without increasing stress.

Across multiple locations in Minnesota, Clive’s Roadhouse has built a reputation for reliability, and the Champlin spot carries that banner well. Reviews often mention fair pricing, generous portions, and a menu that satisfies both picky eaters and adventurous ones. While no restaurant is perfect-wait times can stretch during weekend rushes-the transparency around those delays helps set expectations.

For anyone scanning menus online or deciding where to eat after a movie nearby, this roadhouse delivers a dependable, well-executed dining experience rooted in solid kitchen practices, informed service, and a clear understanding of what keeps guests coming back.

  • Excellent food. I had the smoke house grilled chicken and it was great as well as huge. Lots of waffle fries and the sandwich was gigantic. Great friendly and fast service for a weekday lunch. Parking is tight. Fine at lunch, but at night lot is full and you'll probably have to park in the neighboring bank's parking lot. Which will also tell you that you have a pretty good wait for a table. Easy to find and get to. Highly recommended when not super busy.

  • We came in to watch the Vikings game on a Sunday afternoon. Savannah was working behind the bar and her service was top notch. She was very attentive and extremely personable. The brunch food was enjoyed by all. We will be back based off of our service experience.

  • Good experiences every time we come. My first rating though. We are used to going to Malone’s but this place is on my commute home and road construction is bad right now. So it’s a great place to meet. The patio is nice with lots of umbrellas for shade and faces the little pond with cattails and birds and a fountain. Waitstaff is always friendly and smiling. Food comes quick. I had the house old fashioned, good and strong with makers mark bourbon. We order jambalaya and the chicken platter. Is it ok to say it’s too much food. Haha. Yummy waffle fries and seasoned sour cream. Our bill was $44 for all that. Enjoy!

  • It's one of my favorite places! Service has always been great. Food is fantastic, and the old fashion is one I crave. We like to get here at 11am when the open and not so busy. Good friendly servers. A great place to try!

  • The buffalo chicken salad did not disappoint. It was everything you want in a salad. I’d just had a buffalo wrap and thought I wish this was a salad. It’s like Clive’s hears me and delivered in a major way. I thought due to the large size of the salad I’d be taking it home. But since it was so delicious I couldn’t help but finish it. My stomach was nice and satisfies. Also if you’re hungry before the food arrives they have complimentary popcorn available to hold you over until the food arrives.

  • I was a little surprised with how great the food was. Our food was great and the service was top notch. I think we had 4 different servers overlapping to stop by at all the key moments. Not only was the food really delicious, but it was served really fast. Maybe it was that we beat the dinner rush, but we barely made a dent in our drinks and our food was served. I'd make a special trip to eat here again as we're not local and were just passing through.
